Labels

The two paintings I have created are in fact interrelated, and together they express a person's view and understanding of themselves. In the painting on the left we see a nude girl whose body is covered by many coloured circles. These circles represent the various labels that society and others have placed on her, while the girl is expressionless, as she does not know who she really is.

On the other hand, in the picture on the right, a girl wearing a topless nightgown can be seen surrounded by many balls of thread. These balls of thread represent the girl's inner confusion and fear. However, at the girl's feet is a dull, colourless circle, which represents her tearing off the label that made her feel bound and unfree.

Together, these two paintings, I believe, present a person's quest for self-knowledge and self-understanding, ultimately finding their true self through freedom from labels and the expectations of others.
