The Two Live Of Li Ermao

Ermao is a documentary by Chinese director Jia Yuchuan, who has been working on it himself for 14 years.

The documentary focuses on Ermao, a young gay Chinese man.
The entire documentary revolves around Ermao's life, including his family, friends, romantic relationships and more.

In the process of filming, Jia Yuchuan tries to let the audience feel the inner world and emotional experience of Ermao, presenting the story through the recording of the camera and the presentation of the scenes.

The documentary was controversial when it was released in China, but it has also gained some attention and recognition as a masterpiece of Chinese gay cinema.

In those days, it was difficult for transgender people to gain social acceptance and support, so Li Ermao had to hide her true identity under the pressure of society. She tried to meet society's expectations by getting married and having children, but in the end, she could not escape the confusion and pain she felt inside.

In the process, Li Ermao's self-perception and gender identity changed considerably. She gradually came to understand her true identity and began to actively explore and express her gender identity. Although she experiences many difficulties and setbacks in this process, she eventually finds her sense of belonging and self-worth.

In exploring Li Ermao's life, we can analyse her experiences from the perspective of self-perception. Transgender people often have to go through long periods of internal struggle and cognitive transformation, which have a significant impact on both their self-perception and their mental health. Social support and acceptance in this process is crucial for the physical and mental health of transgender people. This is something that I want to explore in my work.
